Welcome to Squirrel Class
I hope everyone has had a good Christmas and are feeling relaxed ready to start a new year.
If you are wondering or unsure about anything please do not hesitate to ask me.
Due to an enforcement of fire regulations we have lockers for coats and PE bags. Please encourage your child to be aware of other locker users when opening and closing their lockers.
Your child will continue to get homework in Squirrels. This can be connected to the topic or to reinforce work we have covered in class. Homework ideas will be given to your child with their homework book. I would appreciate you helping your child to complete their homework but obviously not to do it for them! If the homework involves finding information on a computer please do not print off sheets and sheets of information. If your child could write a few sentences about what they have enjoyed finding out, that would be more appropriate. Please return finished homework on a Monday morning and encourage your child to remember it is their responsibility to hand in the homework. There is a tray in the classroom for finished homework. Your child will have spellings to learn. Spelling tests are usually on Monday.
As in previous classes your child will have a reading scheme book linked to the book band they are currently reading. Please read with you child at least three times a week and discuss the books as they read them. Also, please write a comment in their reading diary. You and your child can change reading scheme books. We have a number of books for reading at home colour banded in levels. Please ask about your child’s colour band so you can choose the appropriate books.
P.E. is on Tuesday and Wednesday please ensure your child has an indoor kit of shorts and t-shirt as well as an outdoor kit and trainers. Long hair is tied back for PE and all jewellery has to be removed. It is so much easier if your child does not wear earrings on P.E. days.
Help in Class
I always really appreciate help in class either to work with the children or on a convenient morning to listen to reading 9.00 to 9.30. If you are able to help please do come and have a word with me.
