year 2 (gaudi class)

Class Teacher: Miss Waites

ETAs: Mrs Rathmell and Mrs Rowe

Welcome to Gaudi Class, home of Year 2. This year, our class teacher is Miss Waites and working with her is Mrs Rathmell and Mrs Rowe. Here you'll find all the information you need to help your child progress throughout the year.

Due to current Covid restrictions, I am unable to meet with parents in school however, if you have any concerns or queries then please do drop me a message on Class Dojo or by email via the school office.

Reading

Reading is a very important part of your child's education. Children will read everyday in school and will read with an adult at least once a week. Please read regularly at home. Your child will be awarded a dojo each time they read at home so please record this in their reading record.

We are often asked whether there are any books which we can recommend for pupils. The website: https://schoolreadinglist.co.uk shows lots of good choices for individual year groups.

Spelling

Children will get a new set of spellings every week to practice. We will have a spelling test on a Friday.

Please see below a list of year one and two common exception words. These are words which children should be able to spell correctly in their writing. We haven't learnt them all yet so please don't worry if they don't know them yet.

You can also practice your spelling on EdShed by playing games to earn points.

Maths

We will continue to follow the White Rose math's scheme throughout the year. We will use a range of methods and strategies to answer math's related questions.

Alongside our teaching in school White Rose are continuing to provide home learning which you can access by clicking here.

Please also practice your timestables on TTRS, you can login here via this link. https://play.ttrockstars.com/auth

Here are some photos of us working hard in maths.

Our topic this half term is Far From Home.

In Science we will be focusing on living things and their habitats. We will explore habitats in our school grounds and wider habitats around the world. We will focus particularly on the Arctic and the animals that live there to link with our key text about a polar bear.

In Geography we will study the Arctic and compare to the UK. We will answer questions like 'Could humans live in the Arctic?' 'Can a polar bear live in the desert? Why?'

In History we will be researching famous Arctic explorers. We will also look at remembrance day and the significance it holds for our country.

In Art we will look at the work of Andy Goldsworthy.

We loved exploring our local habitat as part of our science topic!
