Religious Education

Vision statement and intent:

Intent

At Skelmanthorpe Academy, our intent in Religious Education (RE) is to provide our pupils with a rich and engaging curriculum that promotes deeper understanding and appreciation of different religious and non-religious beliefs and practices. Our aim is to foster open-mindedness, respect, and tolerance, while also developing our pupils' critical thinking skills. We want our pupils to explore their own beliefs and values, as well as those of others, and to explore the role of religion in shaping our society and world. Ultimately, we strive to equip our pupils with the knowledge and skills they need to live harmoniously in an increasingly diverse and globalised world.

SEND in the RE curriculum

RE makes a significant contribution to the overall knowledge pupils will need in life. The RE curriculum is designed to give all learners - especially the most disadvantaged and those with SEND - the knowledge they need to succeed in life. Careful task design is useful in making the key aspects of RE lesson clearer and more accessible, allowing pupils to give attention to what they should be learning rather than the complexity of the task.
